I knew I wanted to write a book about the horror of the American Dream. Not only jump scares or shadowy figures, but the insidious, suffocating terror of enforced conformity and repressed sexuality. What better vehicle than the omnipresent, universally hated fixture of the suburbs - the HOA?

I’m at a bit of a loss in describing exactly what category this novel falls into. It has the trappings of horror comedy, but it leans the most into the absurd. I hope you enjoy your own move to Cedar Lane. Just try not to pay too much attention to the geometric symbols on the sidewalk, or the way your neighbors seem to watch you unpack.

Thanks for reading! I wanted to take that framework and drop in COVID. This story isn’t really done, but I think the shape it’s taking. It’s a weird length; very long for a short story, not quite a novella.
